Obituary of Mildred Gavin

I Mildred Hawkins Gavin, the third child born September 30th, 1933 to Virgil and Gertrude Hawkins to this union there was nine children. Six proceeded me in death. I have two brothers left, Floyd Hawkins of Clarksdale, Mississippi and Willie Hawkins (Ethel) of Indianapolis. I was married to the Love of My Life, Willie Gavin for 45 years. He departed this life in 2003. To Willie (Broman) and I there was 5 children born. My oldest Lendora Robinson proceeded me in death. Veola (Gavin) Davis (Abe), Bennie Gavin, Virgil Gavin (Stephanie) and Leah Gavin all of Indianapolis. I was lucky to have two bonus children, Willie Gavin Jr. of St. Louis whom proceeded me in death. Jean of Clarksdale, Mississippi. I devoted my life to being a housewife and helped raising my sisters and brothers. And raising my children, help raising my grandchildren. And many other children. Spreading love, wisdom and knowledge. After moving to Indianapolis, I finished my education at Day Adult Night School. Math was what I loved I wanted to learn how to do Algebra. And I did. I joined College Avenue Baptist Church in the early 70’s. Now known as Oasis of Hope. I served in the kitchen ministry and the nurses ministry until my health failed. I’m the Proud Grandmother of nine grandchildren. Adrian proceeded me in death in 2012. Bennie Jr. (Alisa), Aaron (Veronica), Stanley (Tiffany), Shantrice, Brittany (James), Chacolby, Shannon (Sharon) and my big baby boy Abe Jr. My special bonus granddaughters Ebony and Lakeshia. Twenty-two great grandchildren, two loving god daughters Gelone and Pearl, a host of nieces and nephews, two wonderful neighbors, My BFF’S for 35 years: Mattie (Neicey) and Little Helen, and a host of other Dear Friends.
