Elliott Lester Varnado Jr was born January 12, 1953 to Elliott and Anna Varnado Sr. He was the youngest of seven siblings. Being a Junior, we called him “Junie”. Junie departed this world for his Heavenly mansion June 22, 2020, he was 67 years old. In his formative years he attended Indianapolis Public Schools and received his diploma from Arsenal Technical High School in 1971. While in high school he was in the choir, drama club and on the varsity football team. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior early on in his life at Mount Pilgrim and was baptized by the Rev. Pendleton. He enjoyed as a youth going to Happy Hallow summer camp with his brothers and sisters, and friends. He enjoyed playing the card game dad with family, this was a serious game. He enjoyed discussing world topics, religion and sharing his thoughts extending all through his life. Junie joined the United States Airforce March 14, 1972, where he rose to Airman First Class. He served in the Vietnam War and then was stationed in Alaska. He left the service February 25, 1975 with am honorable discharge. Due to peripheral disease Junie became a double amputee in 2005. With a scholarship Junie went to SCSEP and received a certificate of completion on November 5, 2015 in goal settings, resume writing, and interviewing skills. In 2019 Junie went to Washington D.C. to speak before Congress lobbyiong for funds for Disabled Veterans. He loved life and was very independent. Junie always smiled, offered what he had, talked to everybody about anything and everything.
