Obituary of Marvin Wilford Owens

Marvin W. Owens was born October 24, 1936 in East Saint Louis, Illinois to Monroe and Ora Bell Owens. Marvin attended Garrison grade school and graduated from Lovejoy high school in Lovejoy, Illinois. After graduation, he joined the Air Force where he served as a Jet Mechanic from 1955-1959, being stationed in Japan and Greenland. Upon completion of his service, Marvin came back home to Indianapolis where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. In 1966, Marvin relocated his residence to Los Angeles, California, he became a member of City of Angels Church under leadership of Pastor O.C. Smith (God didn't make little green apples and it doesn't rain in Indianapolis in the summer time). He also explored many occupations until he found his niche in Real Estate. He was a proprietor of several ventures in the Los Angeles area including Marv Owens Enterprises and MoMony4You. Not only was Marvin an entrepreneur, he was also a community activist and heavily involved in politics. He was on the campaign trail with Robert F. Kennedy when he was assassinated. In 1969, Marvin married Sheron Muldrew, and to this union a son Marvin Lamar was born. In 1995 he married Sharon Shepard and remained married to her until her death in 2013. After her death, he moved back to Indianapolis and resided with his sister Barbara Owens. In February 2014, he moved to a Senior Citizen's housing. 2015, he moved to Springmill Meadows Nursing Facility where he resided until his passing on April 1, 2017. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; brother Monroe Owens Jr,; sister, Etta Ruth Newburn. Marvin leaves to cherish his memory: Sons: Marvin L. Owens, Derrick Carter; Daughter: April Carter; Sisters: Barbara C. Owens, Auldrey Oliver-Meza, Audrea Oliver and Christy Durden-Brown; Brothers: Patrick Owens (Rose), Melvin Owens (Nichole); Grandchildren: Amani Boddie-Owens and De'Ja Prater and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.
